The Program

I.                            Beginning `ukulele

 The goal of Beginning `ukulele is to provide a structured  non-intimidating learning and fun-filled time playing music on the `ukulele.

 The format will be at least 30 minutes of instruction per session taught by a competent instructor.

Parameters and Rules

1)      Strict allowance of songs (No four finger chords except for Bb)

2)      GCEA tuning only (Standard or Low G ).

3)      No arpeggios, or finger picking.

4)      Basic strumming only

a.       Common (4/4)

b.      Waltz (3/4)

c.       March (2/4)

 Basically no fancy stuff      

1) Every student must secure their OWN instrument. Assistance is available.
Inquire with an instructor, BEFORE you buy an `ukulele. Come to a ORIENTATION workshop.

2) Every student is required to commit one hour of volunteer work per month.
If you are under 13, a parent or adult will need to complete the volunteer hours for you.

II.                  Intermediate/Advanced `ukulele

 The goal is to continue to enhance and improve the musical skill set of beyond beginning `ukulele players. This program is more free form with chances for all to showcase their skills.  Students will  to share the techniques and processes they use to learn different skills. Every participant will be  given a chance to demo at least once per quarterly session.

            Students can use alternate tunings, bring more difficult songs, basically anything THEY can play, or WORKING on. However, we will provide a small list of songs that the Intermediate/Advanced `ukulele players will learn, and be able to play.

III.               Requirements (Materials)

 1) A good `ukulele (No TOYS). Please ask the instructor.

They will explain what constitutes a good `ukulele.

Please DON'T purchase an `ukulele till you have talked to an instructor.

2) Electronic Tuner or pitch pipe

3) Something to keep music in

4) Portable Music Stands (optional, but highly recommended)

5) A recording device (optional)

 IV.              Durations/Meeting Times

 1 hour for Beginning `ukulele

1 hour for Intermediate/Advance `ukulele (immediately after Beginning, same room)

1 hour Free Form (Sundays) (Group Performances, Special Guests, Open `Uke, `Uke Social, break down and clean up, etc.)

V.  Evaluation

 1)      Attendance

Regular attendance is required. If for any reason, you can not attend a class. You will need to contact Nui `ukulele one hour before classes.

 2)      Participation

Participation is part of Nui `ukulele’s mission of sharing the gift of music. Performances and other NUI `ukulele duties weigh in your evaluation

3)      Improvement

Every session requires individual challenges that improve the overall `ukulele/music skills of the student.

4)      Peer Review

Every student will be required to be reviewed by your peers.

5)      Volunteer Hours

Every student is required to commit one hour of volunteer work per month

VI.              Performances

1 performance is required per quarterly session.
